Health Logistics and Evaluation
Social Science Dimensions is active in the health sector and has recently completed a review of the St John of God Health Care Nursing Development Program in Timor-Leste.
At the project implementation level, SSD has developed a novel Universal Access project with support from the Papua New Guinea (PNG) National AIDS Council Secretariat and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The Companion Product Condom Distribution project is experimenting with the use of existing private sector supply chains as a means of overcoming bottlenecks associated with health logistics systems in low resource environments. The project is driven by the aim of finding a means of facilitating the distribution of condoms to the periphery of the economies of HIV-vulnerable fragile states on a low-cost, sustainable and uninterrupted basis. The approach is presently being trialled in the two PNG provinces of Milne Bay and Simbu. See the SSD blog for further information and updates.
